Renee – Category Producer for TVSN

I began working for TVSN in 2005, initially in the position of Call Centre Operator. So many opportunities have come up for me since then, that I now work as part of the TVSN Studio Production Department as a Producer.

As a Producer at TVSN, my role is very diverse. My main responsibilities include producing live shows, pre production of shows, liaising with the TVSN Merchandising Department, speaking with suppliers and guests to get the most out of our live shows. The role is sales based, but my creativity is always put to good use, coming up with new ways to entertain and inform the customers. It’s a lot of fun, and combines my two passions – being creative and achieving sales success.

I am relatively new to this role, but from what I have learned so far, time management skills are vital! In this role, there are many things that come up last minute as that is the nature of live TV. It is always important to be one step ahead and preparation is critical.

Direct Group is the most diverse company I have ever worked for. There are so many different people here that work for totally different companies all in one complex, making it so interesting and such a creative environment to work and learn in. The opportunities and training that has been available to me during the past 3 years have been priceless, it’s allowed me to find what I am truly passionate about, a career as a Television Producer. If you have faith in yourself, and believe in the company you work for, the possibilities are endless!

Hazel – Senior Team Leader for Direct Group

My back ground is in training, management and sales. Over the years I have had a number of roles within the Direct Group Call Centre ranging from Customer Service Representative, Trainer, Team Leader, Helpdesk Manager, and now my current role as Senior Team Leader.

Working with Direct Group has given me the opportunity to strengthen my skills in staff management, meet and work with talented and dynamic people as well as be involved in exciting projects. I am fortunate to work with inspirational top level management who have a “can do” hands on approach to the everyday work environment and enjoy the culture of passing and sharing knowledge.

I think one of the main benefits of working for Direct Group for me has been job security. I am proud to boast that I have now been with Direct Group for over 14 years, I feel privileged to be given so many opportunities.

I join all the staff in an active Social Club that celebrates birthdays and organises special events. We have great team of talented and dynamic people.

Michelle – Accounts Billings Clerk for Innovations

My background was initially in Customer Service, having managed a Pizza Hut Store for 7 years and worked with the Sydney Entertainment Centre for 10 years. I joined Innovations in 2000 in the Call Centre, was promoted to the Customer Retention Department, and now have been with the Accounts Department for the last 4 years.

As an Accounts Billings Clerk, I process all billing and refunds. I also answer queries for the Call Centre helpdesk and follow up bad debts.

Working at Innovations and Direct Group is varied, frantic at times but always fun. I like the fact that the organisation is close to home, family friendly, flexible, and has a great social club. There are also lots of opportunities for people to progress in the company.

James – Warehouse Assistant for Direct Group

Before joining Direct Group I worked in the meat industry for 30 years. I now work as part of the Replenishment team in the Warehouse. We restock the shelves with products and store products away. I had no warehouse experience prior so have learnt everything on the job.

It is awesome working for Direct Group, great staff and workmates – the people maketh the group with their diversity. It is good stable work.

Holly – Brand Manager for Gaiam

My previous work background has been within the sales and marketing sectors for both the fashion and online industries. These roles have given me the experience that have been vital for the responsibilities I have here at Direct Group.

For Gaiam I am responsible for marketing and campaign management, buying and stock control, web management, admin, as well as analysing and evaluating all promotions.

Organisational and time management skills are major key components in this role. Ability to work in a team environment and communication with both your team and suppliers can be a big one as well. A customer focused approach is also a necessity as a happy customer is always something that we all work towards.

Working for the Direct Group is a rewarding and exciting experience. There is an overall feeling of team work rather than working for one and there is always a support network around you. This environment motivates you to work not only for your Brand, but for the Direct Group as a whole. Everyone is smiling and laughs a lot, really overall a great environment to work in.

Tony – Electrical Buyer for TVSN

I have been a Buyer for a number of years (27 to be exact). I started initially with Grace Bros and bought across a broad range of categories including Gifts and Toiletries, Cosmetics, and clothing. I also worked with Woolworths and Harris Technology before joining TVSN in 2005.

As the Electrical Buyer my role is to achieve sales, source new products for the Electrical Department of TVSN and to create new opportunities to grow the business. To do this successfully I need negotiation skills, general business acumen, marketing skills and the ability to work as part of team yet be self motivated.

What I have found by working for TVSN and the Direct Group is that if you are prepared to work hard and perform well and take opportunities, your career path and development (both personal and professional) is almost endless. I am fortunate to work in a terrific team and company where enjoyment is as much an integral part of our consumer offering as it is to our work life. The fact that no day is ever the same makes for an interesting and enjoyable experience.
