My first role at TVSN was transferring samples for TV shows from the warehouse in Frenchs Forest to the Lane Cove Studio facility, I really enjoyed the people and fast pace of the Lane Cove environment and also the Merchandise team at Frenchs Forest and was fascinated from week one with how it all worked!
After that I attained the Programme Scheduling role in which I learnt a lot about the technical side to running a TV channel and how much was involved behind the scenes. I loved the blend of technological platforms I was working with and marrying that to the creative ‘on air’ efforts of Presenters, Producers and Buyers. It certainly suited my interest in Information Technology and studies I was doing at the time and also my love for TV!
It was there that I found my self interested in the ‘on air’ element of TVSN which includes the sourcing of exciting products and offers and also the presenting side of things both of which are extremely challenging but also very fulfilling! I had sourced and purchased products for a retail store previously but the scale of TVSN was very different!
I started as a Merchandise Assistant in the Health and Collectables dept. and am now an Assistant Buyer in that dept. I have loved building new relationships with suppliers and am very proud of the work and results achieved within my dept.!
Especially Collectable Cars in which I also appear live ‘on air’ regularly! Now I also Co Present some Electrical product shows. ‘On air’ work is extremely challenging and some people tell me it’s their worst nightmare. I relish the challenge and love using great language, honing my presenting skills and communicating directly with the viewers! I also love the feeling of doing a really successful live show! If you are prepared to work hard and challenge yourself on many levels then there are many opportunities at TVSN!
I have worked in Customer Service roles for most of my Career, initially working in the Banking Industry as a trainer and then moving into management positions. I have worked with Innovations since 2003 originally starting as a casual in the Call Centre when my children were young.
I have been given some amazing opportunities whilst working here and have been able to move through a number of roles ranging from Customer Service Representative, Admin Assistant, Trainer, Team Leader, Senior Team Leader, AX Project Manager and have now come a full circle and returned to the Call Centre as Call Centre Manager.
I genuinely love my job and the people that I work with and am extremely thankful to Direct Group for creating and cultivating an environment that people want to be a part of.
My background was initially in Customer Service, having managed a Pizza Hut Store for 7 years and worked with the Sydney Entertainment Centre for 10 years. I joined Innovations in 2000 in the Call Centre, was promoted to the Customer Retention Department, and now have been with the Accounts Department for the last 4 years.
As an Accounts Billings Clerk, I process all billing and refunds. I also answer queries for the Call Centre helpdesk and follow up bad debts.
Working at Innovations and Direct Group is varied, frantic at times but always fun. I like the fact that the organisation is close to home, family friendly, flexible, and has a great social club. There are also lots of opportunities for people to progress in the company.
Before joining Direct Group I worked in the meat industry for 30 years. I now work as part of the Replenishment team in the Warehouse. We restock the shelves with products and store products away. I had no warehouse experience prior so have learnt everything on the job.
It is awesome working for Direct Group, great staff and workmates - the people maketh the group with their diversity. It is good stable work.
I have been a Buyer for a number of years (27 to be exact). I started initially with Grace Bros and bought across a broad range of categories including Gifts and Toiletries, Cosmetics, and clothing. I also worked with Woolworths and Harris Technology before joining TVSN in 2005.
As the Electrical Buyer my role is to achieve sales, source new products for the Electrical Department of TVSN and to create new opportunities to grow the business. To do this successfully I need negotiation skills, general business acumen, marketing skills and the ability to work as part of team yet be self motivated.
What I have found by working for TVSN and the Direct Group is that if you are prepared to work hard and perform well and take opportunities, your career path and development (both personal and professional) is almost endless. I am fortunate to work in a terrific team and company where enjoyment is as much an integral part of our consumer offering as it is to our work life. The fact that no day is ever the same makes for an interesting and enjoyable experience.
